Shameless self-promotion in 5...4...3...2...

As you might have noticed, I have been tinkering with the design of my blog page. I want it to look purty. My husband has been helping me, which is really how any of this got accomplished, but I still have a long way to go before it looks the way I want it. I worked on it all weekend, which is why you haven't heard from me, and I will still be working on small things in the days to come. You also might have noticed that I have added advertisements to the page. That was a kind of hard decision: I was conflicted about it. Since the blog is so very amateur and really just a hobby, it felt strange to try and introduce that world into it. On the one hand, I felt that the commercialism of the ads had no place on a site which exists only to be fun. On the other hand, I don't have a job, and that's what it all really boils down to. The recession here means that jobs are few and far between. So here's my situation.

I plan to go home to Texas for Christmas, so I have been planning on getting a job after I return, since I can't find a job in the autumn and announce a lengthy vacation in December. I did apply for two teaching positions, but I am not certified here in Ireland, and a friend of mine here who teaches told me that over 1,000 certified teachers applied for a substitute position at her school to cover a teacher's maternity leave. I can't compete with that. But the fact remains that until after Christmas, I'm out of a job, and maybe even then too.

I know how distracting and crappy ads can be when you're trying to enjoy a website, so I'm apologizing now, but I just want to see if they work. Meanwhile, if y'all know anyone else who might enjoy my blog, I am announcing today "Tell Your Friends Day". It's where you tell your friends about a nice blog you know of about the life of a crazy lady in Ireland. And I get more readers. Okay? Okay.

*This ends our shameless self-promotion. Thank you.*
