The fiber blog: it keeps me regular

At some point I learned that writing does not come naturally. I know people for which writing comes very naturally; I know this is the case because they tell me. But all these people are liars, too, so I have come to the conclusion that if someone tells you this truthfully they are probably not a very good writer. But I don't really worry about those people, because it all comes pretty naturally to me.
I am in the middle of the long waiting period that comes after you send an unsolicited article in to a magazine. This time period doesn't have a name, so let's call it Purgatory. Purgatory is a funny place. When you are in Purgatory, you are constantly checking your mail or email for some kind of response and trying to gauge if your cover letter was catchy, not amateurish, professional but not cookie-cutter etc., and it can be a really excruciating time of overanalyzation and self-criticism. That is, only when you are aware that you are waiting on a response. Throughout my day, I remember that I have a pending rejection letter 78-92% of the time, depending on if I dream about it or not, therefore I only suffer 78-92% of the time. So I guess it's kind of like when you have an ingrown toenail and it only hurts when you're awake.
Writing isn't really a piece of cake for me, of course, but I need to corral my self-conciousness. I let pessimism stop me from writing when I really should just be letting my mind vomit somewhere everyday. That's where the blog comes in. To see how many people look at it (because I don't punish myself enough, you know) I installed a counter device that tells how many times the site has been viewed. So far the count is 11. It was opened three times by me when I was editing, once by my boyfriend Edmund, and seven times by me to see how many people had viewed it. I have to admit, it's pretty exciting to give yourself something new to look forward to. If I get bored with this I guess I'll finally have to subscribe to People or something.

You're so cute Alyse! I like your blog. It's a good idea to "let your mind vomit" on a regular basis (you crack me up). I'll check out your blog regularly to see what's going on in that intriguing mind of yours (lol). Love you girl -- and your little Irishman too! -- heh, heh, heh
